Everyone here in the Salk Counseling Department cannot believe we are already in week #2 of the 4th quarter! The end of the school year is rapidly approaching and with that, so are FINAL EXAMS. As long as you study and make the most of the in-class final reviews and review packets, you will be prepared!
Many students are unsure about how to study so if you are not clear on what you need to do to prepare for a quiz, test, or final, you are not alone. The "Study Skills" tab on our website has many resources to guide you on how to study. Click on the tab and check it out! We have printable worksheets to make your own study guides for tests. We also have a printable weekly planner, to-do list, and a newsletter with study tips. There is a link to make your own vocabulary flashcards which you can use to quiz yourself online or print them out. Our Study Skills page also has suggestions on how to make the most of extra help along with a printable worksheet to organize your thoughts on what to ask about when you go to extra help. Lastly, we have information on the Salk Peer Tutoring Program if you would like to study with a 7th or 8th grade tutor.
Please use our resources and share with your friends! Your School Counselor is always available to go over study skills with you as well, so stop in the Guidance and Counseling Office during your lunch or work study to make an appointment!

The 7th grade students are visiting the computer lab with their Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Hodge, this month to learn about and research careers related to their interests. The students are learning about the Holland Code and how our interests and personality types can lead us to a particular career. Students have been sharing stories of what careers they are interested in now compared to when they were young children. It's always fun to compare and see if our interests change over time or remain the same! Students are reminded that the career search is a process that takes place over many years and it is ok to be uncertain now of what they will be doing beyond college. Exploring our interests through interest inventories, career searches, joining clubs, and choosing different courses and electives in high school will all help to narrow down which career path we take. The students are exploring careers using the Career Zone website and the My Next Move website. Click the buttons below to do your own career research!
Welcome to March! Spring is on the horizon!

Valentine's Day Made Special by the Big Sister-Little Sister Club
The Big Sister-Little Sister Club is a cross-building mentoring and friendship program for MacArthur High School girls to act as role models to Salk Middle School girls offering self-esteem activities and games. For Valentine's Day, the BSLS Club created a kindness project whereby they created "happy notes" and posted them on student lockers at Salk. The goal was for the middle school students to see them on Valentine's Day morning and bring a smile to their day, as well as, for them to continue to pass forward heartfelt words or deeds throughout their day and everyday. The club is run by Mrs. Philips, school counselor, Mrs. Lyons, school counselor, and Mrs. Miceli, social worker.
